I’m an Artist – Free Membership Program Relaunch

One of our deepest values at MCA Denver is our belief in cultivating the artist community of Denver. We want Denver to be a welcoming home to artists, a place where artists feel empowered, inspired, and able to thrive. We believe that our city is only as interesting as the people who make up its community, and we want artists to have more of a stake in that community. That’s why, in November of 2015, we developed the I’m An Artist free membership program for Denver’s creative community.

In our first year, we were able to provide 1,000 free memberships to Denver artists and we are thrilled to announce we are reopening artists applications for an additional 800 members this year, for a total of 1,500 memberships.

I’m an Artist members always get special benefits and access, including:

  • Free admission to all MCA Denver exhibitions
  • Complimentary guest admission passes
  • Advanced notice & discounted ticketing to special events and programs
  • 10% discount to Shop MCA & MCA Café and Bar

If you or anyone you know is an artist, please share so they can be considered for the program. We are accepting artists on a first-come, first-served basis, so make sure to get your application in sooner rather than later. Apply by hitting the green button below.

Artists In Recovery
Fresh A.I.R., Artists In Recovery, will be presenting an exhibit of 60 works consisting of paintings, drawings, fiber art, sculptures, photography, masks and mix media at the Dairy Arts Center in Boulder.

The Art as Medicine group exhibit celebrates the power of art to heal – to heal the wounded soul, heart, body, or mind. Art is a vital aspect of their recovery: from chronic depression, alcohol or drug addiction, prolonged grief, PTSD or trauma, severe physical injury, or life-altering/limiting illness like cancer, MS, Parkinson’s, etc.
For some, artistic expression can perform well where traditional chemical or psychological remedies fail. Making art is vital to the very will to live-and/or to better cope with the heavy burden some bear daily.
Artists who have experienced “healing through art” were invited to submit art for consideration (through a jury process) along with a brief Artist’s Statement of their relationship to art.
ART EXHIBIT: Jan. 13th thru Feb. 26th
RECEPTION and AWARDS / Refreshments: Friday, Jan 27th, 5:00 – 7:00
LECTURE: “Resiliency & Role of Art in Healing Process” Tues, Jan 17 6:30pm

Janet Strickler recently commissioned by DAM

Janet Strickler, local mixed-media artist and LAG member, was recently commissioned by the Asian Art department of the Denver Art Museum to create a mandala coloring page inspired by the Museum’s own Tibetan Hayagriva Sand Mandala.

The coloring page will become part of an interactive station where museum visitors will be able to color one, or take one home.  If you visit the DAM this autumn, make sure and stop in and check it out!
